Most people enjoy the CNE for its rides, food and concerts. As for me, I make a straight beeline to the $5 DVD booth. People! You can get 5 DVDs for $20, you can’t turn that deal away! Much to my surprise, this year there were two!!

A lot of people don’t appreciate the DVD booths like I do because they don’t carry “good” titles. The term good is subjective. While good to most are movies that performed well at the box office or snagged a whole bunch of Oscars, I prefer movies that people turn their noses up at… ahem Howard the Duck.

I went to the booth in the Direct Energy Centre first. I was able to snag gems like Steve Guttenberg’s Police Academy and Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol, Tremors starring Kevin Bacon, Sam Raimi’s Darkman Trilogy and the piece de résistance: COPS Volume 2. Not the reality show, the animated series. I absolutely loved that show as a kid and can’t believe that I got it for five bucks!

On my second trip, I took my $20 to the DVD booth next to BMO Field. I was able to get the Joseph Gordon-Levitt cult drama Brick, George A. Romero’s Land of the Dead, V for Vendetta, Matinee (never heard of it, because NO ONE has) and the double feature Another Stakeout and V.I. Warshawski starring Kathleen Turner.

I am very happy with my DVD haul. Thank you CNE once again for helping feed my addiction!
